Once we receive a referral from your primary care provider or specialist, the pain management team at Southwest Pain Center will take the time to understand your condition and create a treatment plan designed just for you. Our goal is to help reduce your chronic back and spine pain so you can get back to living your life more comfortably.
Our pain specialists focus on caring for the whole body, using proven, non-opioid treatments whenever possible. These may include guidance on healthy nutrition, exercise, physical therapy, and routine interventional injections. The CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain (2022 Clinical Practice Guideline) is voluntary guidance for clinicians that was created to help inform decision-making. The 2022 Clinical Practice Guideline was developed because the CDC recognized that clinicians need current recommendations for prescribing opioids to improve pain management and patient safety. The 2022 Clinical Practice Guideline and corresponding clinical tools are designed to help clinicians and patients. Nearly 85% of overdose deaths involved illicitly manufactured fentanyl,* heroin, cocaine, or methamphetamine (alone or in combination)
New Mexico's drug overdose death rate has been significantly higher than the national rate for many years. The primary drivers of the increase in drug overdose deaths over the past few years are illicit street drugs (non-prescribed), methamphetamine, and fentanyl in particular. Over 85% of drug overdoses in New Mexico are due to illicit street drugs. Notwithstanding the increase in drugs, overall, deaths due to prescription drugs continue to decrease.

The Nonsurgical Pain Management (NSPM) Professional Practice Analysis Panel meets at NBCRNA headquarters in Chicago yearly to evaluate and revise the content outline for the NSPM exam, ensuring it continues to cover the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for CRNAs who practice nonsurgical pain management. The NBCRNA would like to thank all of our volunteers for their time & expertise.

Jose Ramirez is repeatedly called upon to serve as a panelist with the New Mexico Medical Review Commission. The Medical Malpractice Act mandates the screening of all applications of alleged medical malpractice against a qualified medical provider by the Medical Review Commission. The Act provides for three-panel members from the medical profession and three panel members from the State Bar to review each application.
